Backward vortex generator (BVG), which intersects an array of micro holes on the micro turbineengine blade, guides the gas to flow into BVG and flow out of blade tip leakage at high speed. Asmore gas acts on the impeller, it effectively raises the engine performance.In order to get BVG, micro holes array on the curved surface and inclined plane needs to befabricated respectively. Micro-EDM is an important branch of the micro-manufacture field with nocontact force, so it’s easy to fabricate micro holes on a non-horizontal plane. However, it is difficult tolocate and determine the depth of these arary of holes, which consequently makes it complicated toperform this intersection. So, in this paper, experimental researches on fabricating non-horizontalmicro holes array by using EDM method. The main works are described as follows:1. Improving the micro-EDM system according to the design of BVG; to fabricate theclamping system; to design and fabricate two kinds copper of tool-electrodes of whichsectional dimensions are100×100μm and150×150μm.2. Fabricating micro holes array on the inclined plane: using the experimental process of microthrough holes on the inclined stainless steel palette, by incorporating the electrode wear rule.Then the intersecting micro holes array is fabricated with pre-cutting and second clampingmethod. Through these experiments, the process of the intersecting micro holes array on theinclined plane is achieved, that provides the basis for fabricating the BVG.. For improvingthe processing efficiency of holes array on the inclined plane, fit is imperative to fabricate10×10through holes array on the inclined stainless steel and titanium plate with theimproved tool-electrodes.3. Fabricating the BVG: BVG of which the dimensions exit and entrance are at about150×150μm and200×200μm respectively is fabricated successfully through the improvedprocess above. The result basically meets the design requirement.4. Testing the fabrication effect of BVG: the test is processed through building the testexperimental system.The experimental results demonstrate that: the technical problem of fabricating micro holes arrayon non-horizontal plane such as BVG is effectively solved by using micro-EDM method. This newkinds of method provide a reserve technology for engineering applications in the future.
