Recently the design and preparation of multi-nuclear compounds have receivedextensive attention, due to not only their intriguing structural features, but also theirsignificant application in information processing, data storage, quantum computing,spintronics, or magnetic refrigeration. Herein, we initiated a simple method and easilyaccessible material to target multi-nuclear compounds. Based on a mixed N-, O-donorligand system(1,10-phenanthroline,2,2~’-bipyridine, acids), eleven Co-Dy compounds aresynthesized. These compounds cover di, tri, tetranuclear and pentanuclear structuralfeatures. This thesis could be divided into four chapters:(1) A series of Co-Dy multi-nuclear compounds have been synthesized using1,10-phenanthroline,2,2~’-bipyridine ligands,4-Chlorobenzoicacid, including two trinuclearcompounds, one tetranuclear compounds and one pentanuclear compound. Thosecompounds were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and analysed bysuperconducting quantum interference device. The results show that1and4are singlemolecular magnets(SMMs), furthermore, the Tc of compound4is36K.(2) Based on N-, O-donor ligand system(1,10-phenanthroline,2,2~’-bipyridine, acids,3-nitrobenzoic acid), four Co-Dy multi-nuclear compounds were synthesized, includingone trinuclear compounds, and two tetranuclear compounds. Structural features andmagnetic properties were studied. The magnetic properties show that all of those threecompounds are SMMs.(3) Two Co-Dy dinuclear compounds were synthesized by3-methylbenzoic acid,1,10-phenanthroline,2,2~’-bipyridine ligands. Structural features and magnetic propertieswere determined. Both of them show SMMs.(4) One trinuclear and one tetranuclear compounds were obtained when usingbenzoic acid,1,10-phenanthroline,2,2~’-bipyridine ligands. Structures were characterized and magnetic properties were studied. The results show that11is SMMs, but10is not.
