Economic Belt in the Northern Slope of TianShan Mountains is a central part ofthe economic structure in Xinjiang, but the rapid economic development bring moreand more pressure in environment of the city, and the economic sustainabledevelopment is close to the relationship of development and environmentalprotection. This research selects the size of the different grade six cities of EconomicBelt in the Northern Slope of TianShan Mountains, that is an extra large city Urumqi, medium city Kelamayi, Shihezi and Changji, WuSu, small city Fukang as theresearch object, base on the data of all levels in the autonomous region unit statisticalyearbook, applies the ecological footprint model, research the ecological footprintand ecological capacity of each level cities comparatively, discuss the developmentsituation of the different degree cities, To provides the basis for further exploresustainable development of the Economic Belt in the Northern Slope of TianshanMountains, Research conclusions showed as follows:(1) The ecological footprint per capita was rising gradually in Urumqi, Shihezi, and ChangJi. Kelamayi, WuSu, FuKang were fluctuations in decrease since2005.Among them the Urumqi, Shihezi, ChangJi ecological footprint per capita hadreached maximum.557hm2/person.4.366hm2/person,6.1980hm2/person respectivelyin2009. The cities of Kelamayi, WuSu, FuKang ecological footprint per capita hadreached maximum8.936hm2/person,4.129hm2/person, and6.669hm2/person in2005, but had declined in2009, and the cultivated land and land for constructionwere in large part of the ecological footprint per capita. The reason is the cultivatedland in low yield farmland accounted for60%in North Tianshan Mountain City Belt.Agriculture foundation is poor, the shortage of water resources restrict thedevelopment of agriculture. With the city process of the urbanization speeds up, thearea of land for building increases year after year.(2) The ecological capacity per capita of each city had declined in overallfluctuations. In2002-2009, the ecological capacity per capita of Urumq in generalhad fluctuated at0.128-0.747hm2/person, Kelamayi had fluctuated at0.642-1.890hm2/person,Shihezi had fluctuated at0.451-0.647hm2/person,theecological capacity per capita of Changji had fell from1.264hm2/person in2002to0.642hm2/person in2009,and WuSu had fell from5.210hm2/person in2002to3.637hm2/person in2009, FuKang’s ecological carrying capacity per capita was20032.209hm2/person in2003,0.268hm2/person in2005, had increased to2.163 hm2/person in2009. In ecological capacity per capita components, waters and forestland capacity were relatively small in each city, the capacity of the cultivated landand grassland was larger. The main reason as follows: the cultivated land and forestland area is larger, waters and the forest land area is lesser. So its capacity is lesseralso.(3) Ecological deficit per capita showed ascendant trend.Changji’s ecologicalsurplus was0.322hm2/people in2002, had changed into the ecological deficit-3.946hm2/people in2009, WuSu’s ecological surplus was2.410hm2/people in2002, hadchanged into the ecological deficit-1.231hm2/people in2009. The present situationof the ecological in the cities of Urumqi, Shihezi and Fu kang was more severe, every year was ecological deficit, and displaied growing trend. Kelamayi in2002was ecological surplus, had changed into ecological deficit for-1.588hm2/person in2009. Fossil fuels and construction land were major part in each cities of theecological deficit structure. The Ecological capacity and the ecological footprintcontradiction between supply and demand were obviously. Revealed the seriousenvironmental problem between economic development and people life. In additionto calculated and analyzed the expansion of the ecological footprint model, verdictsustainable development status of North tianshan mountain City Belt,The development ability of Economic Belt in the Northern Slope of TianshanMountains is rising, but the emergence of ecological deficit indicates that itsdevelopment is beyond its ecological carrying capacity, in later period of time, Northtianshan mountain city Belt will still be in the undevelopment state, so people musttake steps to reduce its ecological footprint, improve the sustainable development ofEconomic Belt in the Northern Slope of Tianshan Mountains...
