Superalloy possesses many advantages such as thermal stability, fatigue resistance and highstrength in elevated temperature, for this case, it is widely used in many fields including aviation andship manufacturing industry. But superalloy is also such a material which is difficult to machine forthe reason of containing many strengthening phases and with low thermal conductivity. So thekeeping of surface integrity becomes very hard, in addition, the wheel endurance is usually quite low.The application of CBN grinding wheels incorporating with optimized grinding technology canachieve better surface quality and higher efficiency. Monolayer CBN grinding wheels are inferior inthe stability and with no alternative abrasives for the reason of only one layer of abrasives. In order tomake the using of this kind of grinding wheels more proper, research work on them is going to bevery important. In this paper, based on the achievements at home and abroad, methods of wheel wearcharacterization for monolayer super abrasive grinding wheels have been summarized and used ingrinding of superalloy GH4169. The main research work completed are as follows:(1) Based on the topography of grinding wheels and processing signals, methods of wheel wearcharacterization for monolayer super abrasive grinding wheels have been put forward.(2)Both electroplated CBN grinding wheel and brazed monolayer CBN grinding wheel wereused in the experiments of grinding wheel wear. During the wheel wear study, the changing wheeltopography of the working part, the radial wheel wear, the active working grains and the wheel wearratio were detected. Also, the grinding force, temperature, AE signal and surface integrity wereanalyzed.(3)Based on the wheel life given by the surface integrity, relationships between the changingwheel topography and the processing signals were analyzed.
