Mine water hazard is one of the major hazards of underground mining. To identifywater hazard reasons by a similar simulation study, it can provide a basis as theestablishment of measures which aimed to prevent the water bursting. The key to thesimulation study of mine water hazard is the research and development of a similarmaterial which has low strength, high water resistance and certain impermeability. Inview of this, firstly, this paper derived the necessary performance parameters of asimilar model test, based on the similarity theory. Then, developed three series oflithologic similar materials which main cementing material were cement, cement andsoil, and paraffin, respectively.And carried out a systematic study of its performance,such as compressive strength, water resistance, impermeability and so on.The results showed that right amount of silicone mixed with cement-based similarmaterials can improve their water resistance. Mixed with appropriate amount of sodiumchloride can effectively improve the early strength and inhibit the growth of the latestrength, what is Help to shorten the test cycle, for it made little different of thematerial’s strength of7d,14d and28d, respectively. Simultaneously, there is a goodlinear correlation between the strength of the material and its cement content. On thebasis of a series of experiments, this paper finally got three kind of materials, ascement-based similar materials with Softening coefficient of not less than0.85, theintensity of0.3~3.0Mpa, cement-soil-based similar materials with Softeningcoefficient of not less than0.85, the intensity of0.1~3.0Mpa, and paraffin-basedsimilar material with a good impermeability, strength of0.1~0.5MPa. Performance comparison of the three materials indicated that cement-based similar material has agood water resistance, but poor impermeability; Cement-soil-based similar material hasa better impermeability, but influenced much by the curing conditions; Paraffin-basedsimilar materials’ water resistance and impermeability are both good, but the productionis difficult. So, reasonable combination of the three series of similar materials can meetthe requirements of mine water hazard model test with water pressure conditions.
