In recent years, the design and synthesis of coordinationpolymers with fascinating structural, topological features, andpotential application in functional materials and molecularrecognition have feen one of the most active fields in currentchemical researches. 2, 3-Quinoline dicarboxylic acid is apolydentate organic ligand containing N, O atoms, which cancoordinate to transitional and lanthanide metal ions and mayexhibit various coordination modes. Thus it is a good candidate forsynthesizing novel coordination polymers. In this thesis, threetransition metal complexes, fourteen lanthanide compounds andnine lanthanide-transition heterometallic complexes have beensynthesized by hydrothermal method using 2, 3-Quinolinedicarboxylic acid as ligand, which were characterized by elementalanalysis, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and single crystal X-raydiffraction. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and fluorescentproperties of some of these compounds were also investigated.Main work is summarized as follows.1. Three transition metal complexes were obtained by employing 2, 3-Quinoline dicarboxylic acid as the organic ligand,[Cu(L22]n1, [Cd(L22]n2, [Co(L22]n3, (L2= 3-Quinolinecarboxylic Acid),and the luminescent properties of [Cd(L22]n2 was ivestigated.2. Fourteen lanthanide compounds were obtained based on 2,3-Quinoline dicarboxylic acid, [Ln2(L26(H2O)6] 2H2O (Ln = La 4, Pr 5,Nd 6),[Ln2(L24(H2O)8] 2L2 2H2O (Ln = Sm 7, Eu 8, Gd 9, Tb 10, Ho 12,Er 13, Tm 14, Lu 16, Y 17) and [Ln2(L24(H2O)8] 2L2(Ln = Dy 11, Yb 15),(L2= 3-Quinolinecarboxylic Acid), the thermal stabilities andluminescent properties of these compounds were investigated.3. Nine lanthanide-transition metal heterometallic coordinationpolymers were synthesized by using 2, 3-Quinoline dicarboxylic acidas ligand, [Ln2Co(L12(L24(H2O)6] 4H2O (Ln = Gd 18, Dy 19), [Ln4Co(L12(L26(OH)4(H2O)4] (Ln = Tb 20, Dy 21) and [LnAg2(L24(H2O)5] ClO4(Ln = Nd 22, Eu 23, Gd 24, Tb 25, Dy 26), (L1= 2,3-QuinolineDicarboxylic Acid, L2= 3-Quinolinecarboxylic Acid). The thermalstabilities and luminescent properties of these compounds wereinvestigated.
