Benzene pollutant is an important part of the indoor air pollutants. It is characterized by micro-scale, highly toxic, and volatility. Current technologies consist of adsorption purification method, absorption method, combustion method, biological purification method, photo catalytic oxidation method and etc. These methods only apply to control industrial emissions or high concentrations of benzene. However, indoor air benzene pollutant is low concentrations in large spaces. So how to treat benzene pollutant with low concentration in a large space becomes an important research. In this thesis, based on the early research in indoor air cleaning using non-thermal discharge, the needle-matrix corona discharges are used to reduce indoor benzene pollutant. An experimental device for efficient purification of benzene in indoor air is established.Firstly, the needle-matrix to plate positive corona discharge is used to remove benzene pollutant. The blank experiment of three kinds of initial concentrations is studied. By changing initial concentration of benzene, wind velocity, discharge power and relative humidity, the effects of each parameter on benzene removal rate is studied.Then, using the needle-matrix plate negative corona discharge, the effect of various parameters including initial concentration of benzene, discharge power and relative humidity on benzene removal rate is studied.At last, using the needle-matrix bipolar corona discharge, the effect of discharge power on benzene removal rate is studied. By comparing all these methods for benzene removal, the best kind of discharges and the optimal discharge parameters are obtained.By comparing the experimental results and combining with theoretical analysis, it is including that the best discharge is the needle-matrix to plate positive corona discharge. And the optimal discharge parameters are as follows:the wind velocity is 2.4m/s, the discharge power is 9W, and the relative humidity is 40%.
