The city was the main places of human activity, which was constituted by economic,social and ecological, The aim of Urban sustainable development was to realize thecoordinated development of the there system.With the acceleration of urbanization and therapidly development of economy, city problems, such as resource exhaustion, environmentaldegradation, became more and more seriously. The comprehensive evaluation research andquantitative measure of urban sustainable development had important theoretical and practicalsignificance.The paper made a summary of the evaluation of the urban sustainable development inand out of home on the basis of the discussing the connotation of the urban sustainabledevelopment. This paper analysised the current situation of Tianjin’the urban sustainabledevelopment in 1978-2009 from economic, social and natural environment. This paperevaluated the Tianjin’urban sustainable development，by the method of single index of theecological footprint and resource productivity, at the same time, set up the evaluation indexsystem, comprehensively evaluated Tianjin’urban sustainable development.As a quantitative measure analysis method, Ecological footprint got a widely appliedresearch since it was put out in 1992; due to its calculation method was simple and norm. Thisarticle calculated the ecological footprint and ecological carrying capacity, and analyzed theecological deficit situation of Tianjin, while make an evaluation about the urban sustainabledevelopment of Tianjin form city ecological standpoint.The absolutely reduced of the resource consumption is the basic condition to realize theurban sustainable development, used the resource productivity theory to calculation theresource productivity of Tianjin in 2000-2009. To analyzd the bounce of the effect, growtheffect, reduction effect of material input directly, and De-linking or Re-linking of Tianjinreflected the relationship between economic growth and environmental pressure. Based onthe IPAT , analyzed the relationship between resource productivity, economic growth,environment and the growth of population.Considering that the urban sustainable development was a coordination process amongthe economic development, social progress and ecological environment protection, In order tocomprehensively reflected the urban sustainable development and understanded the result ofthe evaluation of urban sustainable development, this paper introduced the concept of degreesof urban sustainable development and set up urban sustainable development’index systemfrom the respects of economic, social and ecological, normalized the raw data of index, withthe method of entropy to identify the weight of index. Calculated the degrees of urbansustainable development, the paper pointed out that: it was a stronger in 2001, while 2002 and2005-2009 were the basic sustainable developmentt, 2003-2004 was weakly.
