In order to meet the need of engineering materials of wood structures and improve the value in use of of fast-growing wood poplar, the engineering materials composite laminates reinforced by glass fiber were made by poplar veneer, which was used in laminated veneers of integrated engineering materials.The main results of the effect of hot pressing process, thickness of veneer, coating method, amount and location of glass fiber for engineering materials composite laminates of poplar reinforced glass fiber on the properties of engineering materials composite laminates of poplar, and surface microscopic analysis of glass fiber and poplar veneer are as follows:(1) The mechanical properties of engineering materials composite laminates of poplar increased with the add of glass fiber. Compared with the composite laminates without glass fiber, MOR and MOE of composite laminates with the addition of two-layer glass fiber increased by43.5%and29%, respectively. MOR and MOE of composite laminates with glass fiber near close to there surface were32.6%and23.7%larger than that of composite laminates with glass fiber in their middle, respectively.(2) Compared with untreated glass fiber, it was revealed that the contact angle of glass fiber treated with coupling agent decreased by19.5%for initial contact angle and41.1%for final contact angle, which indicated that coupling agent improved the wettability of glass fiber. Hot pressing of Poplar veneer with addition of adhesives lowered its wettability. The SEM observation indicated that the glass fiber treated with coupling agent attracted more adhesives and formed excellent bonding interface. The coupling agent had an obvious effect on improving the bonding properties, which reached best when the concentration of coupling agent was in the range of8%-1%, and the properties of composite laminates meet the standard of GB/T20241-2006as the amount of coupling agent was in the range of0.5%-2.0%. (3) The mechanical properties of engineering materials composite laminates of poplar were improved significantly with the increase of thickness of Poplar veneer. Weather resistance of engineering materials composite laminates of poplar with double sided adhesives was better than others and their impregnated stripping ratio was0%.(4) In this study, composite laminates made of Poplar veneers with various thickness had different hot pressing processing parameters. Engineering materials composite laminates of poplar made by veneers with the thickness of1.2mm reached the best properties when the amount of adhesives, amount of coupling agent, hot pressing temperature, pressure and time were250g/m2,1.5%,150℃,1.2MPa,100s/mm respectively. Engineering materials composite laminates of poplar by veneers with the thickness of1.8mm got the best properties when the amount of adhesives, amount of coupling agent, hot pressing temperature、 pressure and time were330g/m2,1.8%,160℃,1.2MPa、100s/mm.
