With the increasing development of science and technology, machine tool equipmentshave been one important criterion of measuring the manufacturing technology and nationalprosperity of the country. Gradual improvement of machine tool technology also makesmachine tools develop into a stage of more sophisticated, more high-speed, more efficientand portable operation. In order to get a good performance of machine, we need to conductthe optimization and design to the machine, the current domestic design of machine toolsmainly from the experience-based, which makes the performance of machine do not getmore play, also makes the level of China’s machine still can not catch up with developedcountries, to some extent, it has greatly restricted the development of machine toolsindustry and manufacturing.Column is one of the important parts in heavy-duty machine, and it plays a veryimportant role in machining, directly affects the machining accuracy. In the article, to thecolumn of TH6918floor type boring and milling machine for the study, using the ANSYSsoftware to analyze the column and structural optimization, in order to improve thereliability and stability of the column. In recent years, finite element method has a widelyapplication in optimization of machine, and has become a convenient, fast and effectiveauxiliary tool in modern engineering analysis and design. The wide application of finiteelement method in the development and design of machine shorten the period ofproduction design, reduce manufacturing costs and improve the processing performance,thereby increase the competitive advantage of machine tool. In the study, model has builtmainly through three-dimensional graphics software Pro/E and the finite element softwareANSYS, and then makes the static and model analysis, analyzes the stress, deformation,natural frequencies and vibration model shapes changes, applies the topology optimizationmethod to determine the column structure target on reducing the weight of the column. Thecolumn has been optimized by finite element analysis software ANSYS to obtain the optimal structure, and save the raw materials, reduce the design cycle and the economiccost, and the performance of the optimized column has also been significantly improvedand provided the theoretical basis for the further design in the future.
