With the development of the modern science and technology, the machine tools have already developed into a stage of automation with high-speed, good-efficiency and a high precision therefore a good dynamic structure has become one of the important indexes in the process of developing and designing a machine tool. The finite element method (FEM) and modal analysis theory are more and more popular used in the designation of the modern machine tools.In this paper, an overview of the background and significance of the subject, as well as research at home and abroad, and pointed out that using the finite element method for machine tool design and improvement of new ideas and the importance of follow-up study to lay a theoretical basis.Selected for three-dimensional CAD modeling software- Solidworks and finite element analysis software -ANSYS to set up the structure of the column finite element model, and then post on the overall structure of the static and dynamic characteristic analysis, on the basis of optimized static and dynamic performance is more superior to a cross-shaped layout program ribs. And by changing the wall thickness and the thickness of ribs, as well as the height of a column on the overall sensitivity analysis shows that changes in these three parameters on the dynamic characteristics of post impact. Application of topology optimization methods, determine the optimal structure of the column ultimately.Drawings at the design stage of machine tools, the use of finite element theory and modal analysis theory, the structure of the machine static and dynamic performance analysis and prediction using optimal design method for optimization, the new machine to improve job performance, improve processing accuracy, shorten the development cycle and enhance the competitiveness of products is very important.
