Modular machine tool is widely used in mechanical design, and is suitable for part’s production and processing in large. Spindle box is an important part of modular machine, the design process is flexible and the calculation is complex. With the development of scientific technology and the fierce market competition, reduce the production cost and shorten the development cycle is the key to win the market competitiveness within the same quality. The traditional design method need lots of formulas, table, chart, it is troublesome and needs repeated calculation, its design process error rate is higher, the workload is very big also. The current CAD design method used in spindle box design process can satisify its calculation and its graphics work, but it still needs a lot of man-machine interactive operation, low efficiency and high rate of mistakes, limit optimization sex. All of these make the CAD design method cannot satisfy the automation and intelligent need in rescent spindle box design, so the intelligent design system is desperately need to develop in order to improve the intelligent design process level in spindle box . With the help of the intelligent system no experience designers can get the result of spindle box in expert levelThis paper analysis the drawback of the CAD design method, introduct the intelligent design method and build a intelligent CAD system of modular spindle box. This system uses Visual C++ 6.0 as its development language, use PRO/E’s own Pro/toolkit as its development tools and the Access as its data store tools. In the design process the hybrid representation of rules-framework-process-the object oriented adopted is used to make the knowledge expression more clear; Positive reasoning method and conflict resolution strategy is used in the process of reasoning to establish the efficient reasoning mechanism. All of these make the intelligent design of the spindle box transmission system realized; In drawing process it used PRO/E powerful 3 d graphics functions to realize the parametric graphics in parts drawing. Paper writing is based as the design of tapping spindle box, mainly design the knowledge base and reasoning machine, database and man-machine interface in the intelligence system. The results show that knowledge representation method is appropriate in the process of design, reasoning is correct, communication between designers and system is convenient, with it we can get the better transmission scheme and the correct 2 d graphics. In this paper we also design the interface between the driven system and graphics drawing in boring spindle box, the parameters we get from driven system can be calls directly in graphics part.The use of Intelligent technology can greatly shorten the cycle of spindle box in design, also it can improve the design efficiency and quality, with the the cost of design reduce, it also can realize the spindle box design process automation and intelligent, and laid a foundation for subsequent CAM/CAE processing.
