Modular machine tool is widely used in the manufacturing industries which produce a large quantity of cars, tractors and others; Spindle box is an important and work-heavy part of modular machine tool, which design is complex and flexible. With the development of the society and economic globalization, the market competition is more and more fiercely. Under the premise of ensuring product quality, How to shorten the development cycle and reduce costs is a key factor which relates to success or failure in the market competition. In order to improve the market competitiveness of the spindle box, the majority of businesses have adopted CAD, but traditional spindle box CAD system is lack of designers'reasoning and decision-making capacity and has not met the needs of the design process automation. In this case, increase the spindle box design automation and intelligence level are urgently needed.For the traditional CAD system deficiencies of spindle box, this paper studied the intelligent design concerning transmission system of class of modular machine tool boring spindle box, introduced the expert system technology used widely in the intelligent design,which not only benefit to reduce the driven system of boring spindle box's design cycle , improve design efficiency and quality and reduce costs, but also contribute to improve the automation and intelligent level in the design process.In this paper, the key technologies of expert systems were analyzed and applied it to the intelligent design of driven system of boring spindle box. After consider the driven system of boring spindle box, subsequent mapping system and CAM system's needs, determined the more suitable development environment. In views of complexity and uncertainty of driven system of boring spindle box design, sleeked a reasonable form of knowledge representation and ultimately determined the adopted an object-oriented "rules - framework - process hybrid forms of expression to construct the knowledge base system;As a result of uncertain reasoning and rational control strategy and establishing an efficient reasoning mechanism, in the design of the driven system process enabled the parameters to be determined automatically ,complete strength check of parts and geometric interference checking and introduce a number of feasible solution of driven system of boring spindle box design; Established evaluation mechanisms In the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and got an optimum driven system design by evaluating the possible design options; Formed a combined class of Intelligent Design System for transmission system is suitable, reasoning is correct, mutual exchange between user and the system is facilitate , design calculation is accuracy and driven system scheme is better. The intelligent design system has a strong research significance and application value to shorten Modular machine tool boring spindle box development cycle and reduce the cost of production, which lays a certain foundation for the intelligent design including the subsequent mapping system of Modular machine tool spindle box, CAM system and tapping class spindle Box.
