Generally speaking, deep-hole blasting is the deep drilling operations on blastingobjects .In China, the deep-hole bench blasting is the basic means for the foundationexcavation in many projects of mining and railways, highways, airport terminals, waterfairways, large-scale hydropower etc. With the development of the deep-hole blasting andcomputer technology, the traditional design can no longer meet with the needs for the projects. And numerical simulation is widely used in blasting.Firstly, blasting theory was used to analyze several major factors which effected on themedium-length hole bench blasting. Secondly, rock blasting mechanism and rock blast wavetheory were used to analyze the principle of the stress waves and shock waves in thedeep-hole bench blasting as well as the destructive effects on rock blasting. Hole benchblasting effect will be depended on the diameter of the aperture, types of explosives, explosive density and rock material properties. In this paper, finite element analysis softwareANSYS / LS-DYN was used for blasting simulation with emulsion explosives and TNT.Rock materials include granite, limestone; the diameter of the aperture model were 80mm,100mm, 150mm, and 250mm.With the conditions of the pore diameter as 150mm, the granite, the numericalsimulations for emulsion explosives and TNT were done, as well as the different density ofTNT in the deep-hole model. It can be concluded that the high explosives of the lower densitywas better than the low-energy explosives in rock crushing. With the conditions of the porediameter as 150mm, TNT, the numerical simulations for limestone and granite were done, blasting effect of limestone was better. With the conditions of TNT, granite, the numericalsimulations were done with the different aperture as 80mm, 100mm, 150mm, 200mm and250mm, the suitable aperture is 150mm.The optimal parameters of the medium-length holebench blasting were found by detailed simulations. And similar onsite blasting experimentwas done for proving the results of simulations, two kinds of results were in well. This paper provided technical support for medium-length hole bench blasting, andenhanced the applications of ANSYS / LS-DYN in the blasting design in the future.
