Whether table rotating or spindle rotating cylindricity instrument are used to measure component and evaluation the geometric error, the first thing to do is adjust the component to make sure its geometric axis is as coincidence as the rotation axis. Based on that, the evaluation of the work piece’s geometric error is convincible. This adjustment process was called centering and leveling control of cylindricity instrument.The traditional method was manually adjustment, which’s accuracy and efficiency was different as the operator’s skills, and the reliability of the measurement results is inconclusive. Therefore, the design of automatic centering and leveling control system of cylindricity instrument to realize fast precision adjustment is meaningful to ensure the evaluation of work piece’s geometric error.Therefore, several methods to realize self-centering and leveling control was put forward and a new self-centering and leveling control system was designed in this paper.Firstly, starting from the measuring principle of cylindricity instrument, through analyzing the principle of the roundness and cylindricity error evaluation, the influence curve of the work piece’s eccentricity and inclination angle to cylindricity error evaluation will be simulated. Based on that, the final adjust scope will be confirmed.Secondly, through analyzing the principle of automatic adjustment workbench, including eccentric adjustment principle and inclination adjustment principle, two self-centering and leveling control scenario which were four axis method and three axis method was proposed. According to the actual experimental environment, the paper chose the four axis control method.Thirdly, through the deep understanding on the space position geometric characteristics of the work piece, the mathematical model of double section mining point method was created. And based on that, single section mining point method and spiral mining point method was proposed. Harmonic analysis method which was efficient and precision was used to calculate the characteristic parameters of single elliptical cross section. The simulation experiment was make to evaluate all kinds of methods.Finally, the software of the self-centering and leveling control system was designed on the platform of labview, combined with the movement control CARDS and stepping motor, the control system will be designed. And the methods of single section, double section and spiral mining were validated by experiment, through the experimental results of each method disadvantages compared and analyzed.
