Polyarylate is an important kind of high performance engineering plastics, which has excellent mechanical properties, flame retardancy. heat and creep degeneration resistants. It has become essential materials and has been widely applied in high technology, sophisticated area and people’s life. Polyarylates is mainly produced in Japan, the United States and Germany, while our country still has no production capacity and domestic demand is mainly relied on imports. So it is very important to research and realize it industrialization.In this paper, the polyarylates were synthesized by high-temperature solution polycondensation as a tentative exploration for the industrialization. A series of polyarylates (PAR I s) were prepared from terephthaloyl chloride (TPC), isophthaloyl chloride (IPC) with2,2’-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane (BPA). The structures of these polyarylates were measured by FT-IR, GPC and’H-NMR. The thermal properties, crystalline properties of polyarylates were characterized through DSC, TGA and WAXD. All polymers have excellent thermal properties, and the glass transition temperatures of these polyarylates were above184°C the temperatures for5%and10%weight loss in nitrogen atmosphere were above470°C and491°C. respectively.Insolubility and infusibility of polyarylates make it difficult to process. From molecular level, introduction of meta-benzene or diphenyl sulfide strcture was carried out to improve its processing. A series of polyarylates (PAR II s) were prepared from isophthaloyl chloride (IPC). resorcinol with2,2’-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane (BPA) and polyarylates (PARIIIs) were prepared from isophthaloyl chloride (IPC).4.4’-dihydroxydiphenyl sulifide with2.2’-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane (BPA). The structures of these polyarylates were confirmed by FT-IR,1H-NMR and GPC. The thermal properties of polyarylates were investigated by DSC, TGA and WAXD. etc. The results showed that their transparent, strong and flexible films can be cast from their solution. And they showed high thermal properties with the glass transition temperatures in the range of146°C-190°C and155.3°C-185°C, respectively. And the temperatures for5%weight loss were above480°C and474°C and10%weight loss were above490°C in nitrogen atmosphere.
