Heavy metal pollution of water is one of the greatest water pollution problems in recent decades.Nowadays, heavy metal contamination event take place with year and area, especially in major riverbasins, and attracted attention and concern all over the word. Wastewater of mining, metallurgy, metalprocessing and chemical production and application of pesticide and fertilizer with special function isthe main source of heavy metal pollutants in water. Heavy metals are toxic, which is difficult tometabolism in the environment, and easily bioaccumulation. So it is not only causing the environmentpollution, but also a serious threat to the health of human beings. Control methods of water heavy metalpollution nowadays according to the categories contain: the physical method, chemical method,biological method, and adsorption method which take more and more attention among other methodshas many advantages like wide sources, low cost, good effect, no secondary pollution and so on.Weathered coal is the coal exposed to the surface or located on the shallow surface substantially.After a long time weathering, leads to high oxygen content, low calorific value, so weathered coal isgenerally classified as a category of solid waste and has not been considered as useful mineral resources.The weathered coal piled up everywhere, caused great pollution to the environment. After weatheringand oxidation, the weathered coal has lost it’s value as power fuel, however, it contains a lot ofregenerated humic acid (HA) and a variety of oxygen-containing active functional groups, such ascarboxyl, hydroxyl, alcohols and quinine, which give the weathered coal a new value.This experiment takes the copper as the research object, application prospect of Shanxi Pingshuoweathered coal on the water heavy metal remediation is discussed, and adsorption capacity andadsorption mechanism of copper adsorption on Shanxi Pingsuo weathered coal is studied, and makes apreliminary exploration to the engineering application of Shanxi Pingshuo weathered coal. Main resultsare as follows:(1) In the samples of humic acid collected, Shanxi Pingshuo weathered coal had the best effect onthe adsorption of copper ions, with saturated adsorption capacity10.31mg/g. There is no relationshipbetween the humic acid content and heavy metal adsorption quantity of samples. The humic acidcontent of Shanxi Pingshuo weathered coal is27.164%. Weathered coal in Shanxi Pingshuo is notsuitable for the application of humic acid extraction because of the humic acid content is relatively low.Weathered coal in Shanxi Pingshuo in a wide range of pH showed good adsorption properties, and hadnot only good application prospect in the remediation of waste water of different pH which polluted byheavy metal, but also can greatly reduce the cost of the remediation of heavy metal pollution of water.Therefore, Shanxi Pingshuo weathered coal is taken the best effect on copper ion adsorption, sources ofwidespread and universal applicability.(2) The balance time is short(about1h) during the process of application of Pingshuo weatheredcoal in processing copper ion sewage, the whole process is not sensitive to temperature, pH undervarious conditions has good adsorption. Reusable performance of Shanxi Pingshuo weathered coal isgood, after several saturation analysis processes, copper ion adsorption performance of Shanxi Pingshuo weathered coal did not reduce.(3) The interaction of copper ions and Shanxi Pingsuo weathered coal has two kinds of adsorptionmechanism: Complex adsorption and Ion exchange adsorption. May be heavy metal ions binding on theweathered coal are mainly through organic bond complexation method.(4) The FTIR analysis results of weathered coal saturated by copper ion and the original weatheredcoal sample shows: the spectrum of weathered coal saturated by copper ion is little difference withoriginal sample, description that the functional groups has no no obvious change during the interactionof copper ions and Shanxi Pingsuo weathered coal.(5) In the above experimental foundation, this research granulated the Shanxi Pingsuo weatheredcoal, found that the copper ion removal rate of the particles have reach60%-70%.
