China has a large population and relative shortage of energy and resources, the problem of energyshortage has become the bottleneck of sustainable development of social economy. At the same time,living standards of farmers have improved a lot, and their demand for high grade and clean energy isincreasing, which further intensifies the national energy supply pressure. China as a vast agriculturalcountry, its straw resources has a characteristic of variety, large and wide distribution. However, a lot ofstraws in rural area have not been fully used. Straw burning and discarding has caused great economiclosses. Technology of straw gasification system for central gas supply has become an important way torelieve the energy crisis and environment problems, it is a practical technology suitable to the realtily ofrural economic development level. Practice shows that, technology of straw gasification for central gassupply which including straw pyrolysis gasification and straw biogas, can greatly improve theutilization efficiency of straw, which is an alternative fuel to coal, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas(LPG), increase the supply of high quality energy in rural area and reduce CO2emission.This article analyzed the technology of straw gasification for central gas supply from technical andeconomical aspects by typical research and literature study. It aimed at offering reference to governmentdepartments during project management and promoting technology of straw gasification. The statisticsoringined from the gas stations researched in Provinces of Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangsu,7straw pyrolysis gasification stations and6straw biogas stations. By the statistics analysis and literaturestudy, we concluded that straw gasification technology domestic is mature and feasible, both hasstepped into industrialization development stage. Every year there were new projects put into operation,but the scrap rate was quite high.Secondly, financial evaluation was carried to analyse economic indexes such as NPV, IRR andpayback period of the two typicle cases, and compared gasification engineering costs and benefits ofdifferent scales. The result showed that both projects were poor in economical feasibility. They cannotsustain without the governments’ investment. Famers got more benefits in the projects, comared withcoal and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG),330-420yuan per year and470-550yuan per year can be savedrespectively by using straw gas.At last, suggestions and prospect were proposed. Suggestions:(1) gasification technology researchand application should be carried out;(2) gas central supply of straw gasification projects should orientto large-scale development;(3) reduce the production costs;(4) strengthen project operationmanagement and gas supply services;(5) increase government investments. Prospect:(1) China has anannual output of more than800million tons of straw, having great potential;(2) the gasificationtechnology and equipment research and development require innovation, to improve the quality furtherand reduce the operating cost.
