As a new type of environmental protection of composite materials, the paperhoneycomb sandwich structures due to the advantages of material properties arediffusely applied in construction, packaging, transportation, automobile industry andother fields. In order to promote product quality and the reliability and safety of the useof the paper honeycomb sandwich structures, the selection of optimum technologicalconditions and the research on properties are necessary.According to the manufacturing process of paper honeycomb core, this thesisobtained the actual honeycomb core structure. Taking hexagonal paper honeycombsandwich structure compound panel as the research object, this thesis did numerousresearch on performance of the core, equivalent model of paper honeycomb sandwichstructure compound panel, test and so on.Considering the actual structure of paper honeycomb core, the existing Gibsonmodel, assuming that the thickness of each wall is equal, was revised in this thesis.Based on the Gibson model with double wall thickness, the mechanical properties of thecore were analyzed and concluded the paper honeycomb core is orthogonal anisotropicmaterial.In order to develop an effective predicting method, by assuming appropriateperiodic boundary condition on the edges, a simplified finite element model onhexagonal structure of a unit cell for sandwich panels was developed utilizing the finiteelement method. Several useful conclusions were drawn about the axial crushing ofhoneycomb sandwich composites and unit cell. While two tests based on bend andvibration were carried out in this research. The natural frequency and the displacementof paper honeycomb sandwich structure are computed by bending load. Meanwhile theequivalent methods were adopted through the finite element software ANSYS, thecomputational results were in accordance with test. Therefore, this thesis shows that thefinite element equivalent models are reasonable and practical for the optimizationdesign of paper honeycomb sandwich structure compound panel.Compressive strength, flexural strength and natural frequency were tested underdifferent factors and levels of the paper’s core height, type and gram weight, surfacematerial, adhesive proportion, temperature etc. This thesis obtained the optimumtechnological conditions through experiments, and it will better provide reference forproduction and application of paper honeycomb structure compound panel forpassenger-vehicle.
