High-speed hard cutting refers to high-speed cutting the high hardness materials, which can significantly improve the productivity and processing surface quality; and to a certain extent, it can take the place of the grinding machining. In most cases, high-speed hard cutting during which cutting fluids are not or less using is a dry, quasi-dry cutting, helpful for protecting the environment, and accord with the characteristics of the sustainable development in the21st century;it is one of processing technology which is the21st century’s most promising.At present,as a new kind of process,high-speed hard cutting has been applied in the mold,automobile manufacture,aerospace and other fields.Hardened steel is a typical wear-resisting and difficult-to-machine materials, having a large proportion in difficult processing process. It is one of the best choice to use the high-speed hard cutting in the finishing process of hardened steel.Finite element technique is an important numerical analysis technology. Comparaed with a simple experimental research, it can save a lot of time, reduce the cost and improve the production efficiency.Therefore, based on the finite element method and high-speed cutting40CrNiMoA hardened steel as the research object, a finite element model of high-speed hard cutting has been established.Through the finite element analysis software, ABAQUS,the model of high-speed hard cutting established were simulated in this thesis; the influence of three kinds of ordinary edge preparation(sharp edge,arc edge and chamfering edge) on the cutting process were researched; and through comparative analysis, arc edge was chosen as the cutting tool’s edge form of a follow-up research. Through simulation by the arc edge’s cutting tool, the forming process of discontinuous chip and the influence of different tool parameters and cutting parameters on cutting force,cutting temperature were researched and in-depth analysis of the causes. Through the simulation,the distribution of stress and strain were researched during the chip formation. In addition, with the aid of the finite element model established, the influence of the rake angle, cutting speed, cutting thickness on shear angle were analyzed, and the change of reasonable explanation.In this thesis, parts of the simulation results were compared with the existing experiment data, both in good consistency. It has shown that the finite element model established is rational. Finite element simulation can replace some experimental studies, so as to promote the high-speed hard cutting mechanism research.
