In order to provide theoretical basis and guidance for apple-pear wood funitureoptimization design and development, this article investigated wood properties of apple-pearwood and strength of furniture constructed of it, the study also analyses the mechanicalstrength of a apple-pear chair using finite element software ANSYS.Through the bending strength test of different furniture joints, it shows that the joint formand joint structure all affect the joint strength in some degree. The conclusions are as follows:(1) The hidden ellipse mortise-and-tenon joint has the largest bending strength, which is1498.5N; the run-through ellipse mortise-and-tenon joint has the second largest bendingstrength, with the bending strength of1310.2N; the bending strength of double dowels jointand eccentric fittings joint is smaller, which h is883N and354.2N.(2)As to the same kind of joint form, bending strength test result shows that the bendingstrength of component T is larger than component L.Through the withdraw strength test of four kind of T-type joint, it shows that the hiddenellipse mortise-and-tenon joint has the largest withdraw strength, which is7635N; therun-through ellipse mortise-and-tenon joint has the second largest bending strength, with thebending strength of4113.6N; the bending strength of double dowels joint and eccentricfittings joint is smaller, which h is2141.6N and1516N.Based on the bending strength test and withdraw strength test, concludes that the hiddenellipse mortise-and-tenon joint has the best strength property, then is the run-through ellipsemortise-and-tenon joint, the next is the double dowels joint, and the last is the eccentricfittings joint.In the end of this article, it uses Finite Element Software ANSYS to analyse themechanical strength of apple-pear wood chair. Results show that the maximum deformationof the chair appears on the top of the back, which is1.095×10-3m, and the maximum stressappears in the back legs of the chair near the seatsurface, which is0.474×107Pa, whileapplying vertical load of6500Pa on the seatsurface and horizontal load of6250Pa on the back.Based on experimental data, the author concludes that the structural design of the chair isreasonable and its strength is sufficient. The conclusions above suggest the strength of frame furniture joint constructed ofapple-pear wood with different joint form and joint structure. Furniture designers can choosethe most suitable joint form and joint structure according to the stress state of apple-pearwood frame furniture they have designed.
