Heavy metal pollution in the Yellow River includes:chromium, lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic and other heavy metal of significant biological toxicity. The main feature of the pollution is wide spread, long duration, hard to be aware and bio-degradable. Furthermore, heavy metal pollution might be condensed in the body through the food chain, and can even be transformed into more toxic methyl compounds, which are toxic to some living organisms in the food chain, or accumulated in the body that is harmful to health. In this paper, through the2006-2010five-year water quality monitoring data of Baotou Section (three subsections including Wang Zhaojun tomb, Huajiangyingzi, and Dengkou) along the Yellow River, the distribution characteristics of heavy metals in the surface water of the Yellow River were analyzed. The heavy metal content in the surface water were analyzed on different deposition time and different fixation methods. The contamination pathways of heavy metal pollution in the Yellow River were revealed, and the countermeasures of controlling heavy metal pollution in the Yellow River were proposed.Marked: the heavy metal content decreased gradually with the increase of deposition time;6h after settlement, most of the heavy metal content tends to balance; for differentfixed mode, as is the same and acid-like heavy metal contents variation of the overall, but the acid-like heavy metalcontent overall is higher than the aS in the heavy metal content; Yellow River water on heavy metal content has a significant influence, generally for heavymetal content of the wet period the flat water of> dry season. Therefore, the right to determine the settings of the monitoring sections of the YellowRiver; choose a reasonable analysis of monitoring methods; basis for the rational evaluation of the water of the water environment is to improve the necessity of the Yellow River water quality monitoring technology.
