The safe of fire more and more important in modern life, Polycarbonate (PC)commonly used as a high-performance amorphous engineering thermoplastic in every field of life. However, to meet fire prevention need, PC is still desired to render the materials flame retardancy in practical application. Silicone as environmentally friendly flame retardanthas has a characteristic of high heat resistance and non-toxicity have become research focus.In this paper, the raw materials of hydrogen silicone oil、pheno、bisphenol A were used to synthesized the two new contain silicone flame retardants. That are linear HSOP and branched chain HSOBA respectively. And the structure of HSOP and HSOBA were characterized by FT-IR、NMR(13C-NMR、29Si-NMR) and TGA. The results of the study show that flame retardant HSOP and HSOBA have good thermal stability and carbon behavior. The linear HSOP flame retardant of initial decomposition temperature for quality loss5wt.%at390℃, at the800℃the carbon residual was45.6wt.%. And HSOBA initial decomposition temperature for quality loss5wt.%at381℃, at the800℃the carbon residual was56.9wt.%.We also study the performance of PC composites materials. Thermal degradation behavior and combustion behavior of the PC composites materials were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and cone calorimeter (CONE). The flame retardancy and mechanical properties of the PC composites materials were characterized by limiting oxygen index (LOI)、vertical burning tests (UL-94) and computer controlled electronic universal testing machine. The results of the study show that when the content of HSOP is5wt.%,the LOI value of the composites is32.5%and the UL-94rating reaches V-0, notched impact strength and breaking elongation increases48.9%and37.6%respectively.And the flame retardance of HSOBA better than the HSOP due to the branch structure.The LOI value of the composites is31.7%and the UL-94rating reaches V-0, when the content of HSOBA is3wt.%. Cone calorimeter data confirm that the HSOBA acts as an effective additive functioning both as flame retardant and as smoke suppressant. In addition, the carbon layer structure and the constituent of char residue after LOI tests were characterized by FT-IR、SEM and EDX to explain the possible flame-retardant mode.
