Output of MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) has increased remarkable. The whole process of MSW treatment which including collection, transportation and disposal produced generates a lot of malodour. The malodour greatly influences the health of inhabitants and urban environment quality. In this study, MSW in Beijing was regarded as the main research object.Firstly, investigating and analyzing the characteristic of typical MSW depended on the difference of seasons which included summer, autumn and winter. In the meantime, odor emissions performance data had been collected from the process of collection, transportation and final disposal in order to analyse the source and characteristic of odor. These key odor basic data were used for reduction, prevention and comprehensive treatment technology. Results demonstrated that high moisture content (about50%), low calorific value (about4281kJ/kg) and a higher fluctuation of composition were the main features of MSW; summer and winter were detected in163kinds of volatile organic compounds, including summer detected127species and winter detected97. what’s more, the summer of odor concentration was far higher than that of winter; the odor of MSW not only produced from chemical reaction and degradation of MSW, but also from the material produced through synthesis between non-malodorous material.Secondly, food waste processor macerated the organic waste which was produced by families or restaurants, and dispose of it into the sewage system using water as a transport medium in order to cut off the source of odor. Results indicated that the effluent was slightly acidic after broken, and the range of pH was4.91-6.90; after installing the food waste processor, the TSS, COD, NH3-N, TN and BOD of effluent had shown a upward trend, increment followed by10.91g·人-1·d-1,67.27g·人-1·d-1,67.27g·人-1·d-1,1.05g·人-1·d-1,27.19g·人-1·d-1. While content of phosphorus keeping stabling; food waste macerate made it feasible that transferred stress of food waste disposal from the landfill to sewage treatment plant, however, we should consider the long-term effect of sewage treatment plants where are collected amount of organic waste. At last, Pilot composting of landscaping waste was carried out to evaluate performance characteristics of three aeration systems:turned-aerated piles (A pile), interval-aerated piles (B pile) and traditional-aerated piles (C pile). The perishable domestic waste in situ would reduce the source of odor. Results demonstrated that keeping megathermal period at50℃, A pile just took7days and B pile took9days to convert landscaping waste to mature compost if the proper operating conditions were met; during the process of compost, the C/N ratio of A pile, B pile and C pile degraded from45.63,42.57,44.44to27.4,25.2,31.79, respectively. According to the requirements of T value index indicated that A and B piles were compost enough, but C pile not; the trend of pH of A and B piles were similar during composting. The pH of both piles increased from an initial5.99and6.22to7.23and7.8at the first fermentation stage, and the pH level remained relatively unchanged until7.41and7.82. While C pile had a decreased trend at first fermentation stage, then rose to7.25; the AT4of the three piles dropped as the process of composting, decreased by75.9%,80.2%, and67.0%, respectively. It indicated that A and B piles were compost enough, while C pile not.
