Titanium carbide because of its high melting point, high hardness, high wearresistance are widely used as additives in cutting tools, abrasive, wear-resistantcoating, composite reinforcement. While the nanoscale level of titanium carbideenhance the value of the micron level of titanium carbide. With the development ofmodern heavy industry, the demand for nano-titanium carbide becomes more andmore important,and looking for a rapid synthesis of the synthesis of nano-titaniumcarbide method for energy saving and environmental protection is a key point in thisfield at this stage.Based on the advantages of rapid microwave heating and energy saving, theresearch uses microwave for heating synthesis of nano-titanium carbide powder, andthe successful synthesis of nano-titanium carbide powder. First of all, through theanalysis of raw materials, particle size, mixing time, the roller mill time, the synthesistemperature, heating rate, holding time and process parameters, particle sizedistribution of nano-titanium carbide powder synthesis rate,the research determine thebest process technics parameters of microwave heating synthesis nano-TiC. Secondly,comparison with the conventional industrial furnace synthesis of nano-titaniumcarbide method to explore the difference between of the two synthetic methods.Finally, Thermal analysis, XRD analysis,Thermodynamic analysis to investigate thesynthesis process, and find the mechanism of microwave heating synthesis ofnano-titanium carbide.The research uses of transmission electron microscopy (TEM), laser particlesize analysis (XPS), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), the means of the ultrasonicparticle size analyzer (APS), DSC analysis to test microwave synthesis of nano-TiCpowder composition and graindegree distribution and size.The experimental results show that: the synthesis of microwave heating particlesize distribution is more uniform than conventional electric furnace synthesis ofnano-titanium carbide. The synthesis rate of nano-titanium carbide is mainly determined by the holding temperature and holding time. Synthesis of titaniumcarbide powder particle size and distribution is mainly determined by type of material,raw material particle size, the roller mill and the synthesis temperature. The optimumconditions using microwave synthesis of nano-titanium carbide conditions are asfollows: raw materials (TiO2) particle size is30nm, mixing time is48h, the synthesistemperature is1300~1400℃, the reaction time is60min, holding time (1300℃) is30min.Finally, The experimental found that the middle phase isTi3O5and γ-Ti3O5synthesis by microwave. not Ti2O3and TiO.
