TiC are widely used in metal and non-metallic materials for its good physical and chemical properties as reinforcement. With the development of industrialized society, the demand of TiC powder will becoming more and more big. The way using carbon thermal reduction process to compound TiC by traditional heating mode is difficult to produce TiC of high quality, since it needs high temperature to start reaction and long time to response completely. In this thesis, we used microwave heating as the heat source to produce TiC powder. We found that microwave heating has the characteristics of the fast heating rate and can reduce the reaction temperature and shorten the reaction time. The experiment was guided by industrial production, and analyzed the influence of different material, the pretreatment of material and mixed process of material, microwave system and action time and the atmosphere system on the reaction process by different analysis methods, such as XRD, SEM and DTA.The experimental results shown that: using the rutile type TiO2 and acetylene carbon black as raw material which been roller grinded for 24 h with 0.4%wt PAA as dispersant could get precursor which has good dispersion. Under 6000 W microwave power and working for 90 min could get TiC powder of high quality. Finally, we did experiment to explore the way to reduce the free carbon in TiC, and found that using oil and water confect stratified liquid could separate the free carbon from TiC with centrifugation. We also analyzed the content of the free carbon by DTA.
