Cordierite is widely used with its low thermal expansion coefficient, dielectric constant and high thermal shock resistance. In order to study thefactors affecting the cordierite crystallization behavior, cordierite crystallinepowder was prepared according to the cordierite chemical formula(2MgO·2Al2O3·5SiO2), and Mg(NO32·6H2O, Al(NO33·9H2O, tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) were used as the raw materials to get the sol-gel, thenthe gel was calcined at different temperature to obtain the cordierite powder. The structure and the composition of the cordierite power werecharacterized with the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanningcalorimetry (DSC) techniques. The results shows that the pretreatment andcalcination temperature has a direct influence on the cordieritecrystallization behavior. When the pretreatment temperature is500℃andthe calcination temperature is1200℃, alpha-cordierite phase is obtained.Porous ceramic is an excellent catalyst carrier and it can be used in alarge number of applications, for example, in the automotive exhaustcatalytic purification device, the main components of the material arecordierite or mullite, which appears in the honeycomb structure. This articlefocuses on the preparation of the honeycomb cordierite. First prepared thedispersion P(St-AA) microspheres with the emulsion polymerization, thenturned it into colloidal crystal templates with the natural sedimentation andsilicone oil methods, and then use the colloidal crystal template prepared theordered porous cordierite. Characterized the morphology and composition ofthe polymer particles with the scanning electron microscopy(SEM) andinfrared techniques. The results show that when the initiator of the content is0.3wt%and the reaction temperature is85℃, the monodisperse ofP(St-MMA) microspheres appears in the best status.
