Many small mines with room-and-pillar mining have formed a great number of minedopenings in eastern Hubei. As non-standardized pre-mining operations, unreasonable layout ofpillars eg., safe mining operation is threatened by those existed mined openings which the depthis about200m range underground. Furthermore, the surrounding rock of mined openings is nearthe surface which would be eroded by surface water and ground water for long time, also wouldbe affected by the long-term quake arose from the explosive operations. The stability of thesurrounding rock would continually reduce. This can cause geological disasters and threatenedthe safe of mining operation.In order to avoid such accidents, employing the acoustic emission (AE) technology is aeffective method to monitor the stability of the surrounding rock. The paper is based on a coupleof monitoring projects in small iron mines in Daye district, according to the long-term practicalsituation of the monitoring projects, putting forward to the functional requirements of themanagement platform of the real-time monitoring system, and respectively making thecorresponding functional demand design from the hardware and software. The paper developsthe WUST multi-function rock AE monitor, and based on the GDAS middleware to develop thereal-time monitoring system management platform. Monitoring data transfers through theZigBee communication technology, using a wireless transmission XBEE module to build theunderground network, conveying the monitoring data to the monitoring system managementplatform. This platform makes the real-time and continuous monitoring of goaf possible, andset to the real-time configuration,monitoring inquires and security early warning etc. in querytogether. The monitoring system management platform has already applied to the mine of hubeihualing mining group Co., LTD.
