The Ming Dynasty is proud of its encyclopedical culture and gorgeous color, which is coetaneous with Columbus and Martin Luther.The Ming dynasty is the last one founded by the Han nationality, which is between Yuan dynasty and Qing dynasty. The dress reflects vicissitude observantly, because the dress can incarnate the viscounty and inclination much better than dish and house. The system of dress in Ming Dynasty is so rigorous that no one Dynasty can be apposed. The straitlaced dress in the prophase of Ming Dynasty contrasted clearly with the gorgeous dress in the anaphase of Ming Dynasty. Because of the hierachical strictness, the system of dress is rigorous at the prophase of the Dynasty. And as concussion of economy in the anaphase of the Dynasty, the dress is changed so much that the ambit of the different class is blurred.This paper attempts to make a discussion about the clothing culture and the social life, to make a reflection of the internal changes. It is to achieve the aim by the discussion of the Ming dynasty clothing system, the definite form of the fashion, as well as the origin of the bureaucrat in Ming dynasty.This article is divided into three parts. The first part sketches about the clothing system and the uniformed dressing in the beginning of the Ming dynasty. Strict clothing system was set up at the beginning of Ming’s establishment to distinguish between the minorities and the Han nationality. It is a necessary way to make a distinction between different classes as well. Later than the middle of Ming dynasty, commercial economy developed in the lower reaches of Changjiang River, and some cases about the changes of social morality came out. However, the development of the economy couldn’t support the luxury of the whole society. This is why few gorgeous clothes came to be popular fashion.The second part focuses on the fashion culture of the dress in Ming dynasty. As the social development sped up, the strict clothing system was challenged. Manners of dress changed, and fashionable dress came out. This part is to discuss the form of fashionable clothes, the way and speed of fashion’s spread, and the influence to the economical relationship to Late Ming dynasty.The third part is to discuss the influence to the bureaucrat by Ming’s dress fashion from the perspective of the consumption culture. Consumption activeness was inspired by the popular fashion, and the bureaucrat class was impacted most as the development of commercial economy. It was reflected in many literatures in Late Ming. This part discusses about the fusion between the bureaucrat and the merchant, the activities to reply the clothing culture by the bureaucrat, and the internal changes about the traditional consumer attitudes.
