Water-Land(shuilu)paintings,also known as “ pictures for Water-andLand Service”,are hung in the temples when people holding Water-and-Land Service.These paintings are essential articles in religious ceremonies.This kind of murals also appear in some Water-Land halls and some halls of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.There are 139 silk scrolls and scrolls of Water-Land paintings of Ming Dynasty in Shanxi Youyu Baoning Temple.At present,136 paintings are well preserved and collected in Shanxi Museum.Starting with the costumes of Manjusri Bodhisattva,Samantabhadra Bodhisattva,Guan Yin Bodhisattva,Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva,by using the methods of investigation,literature study and image analysis,etc.,the paper analyzes the clothing styles,the decorative patterns,the lines,the coloring of the four portraits of Bodhisattva,and discusses the time characteristics of Bodhisattvas’ costumes in Water-Land paintings of Ming Dynasty.
