This paper studied the flotation behavior and adsorption characteristic of different carbon chain primary amines and quaternary amines on mica and quartz. Through micro-flotation tests of pure minerals, the flotation performances of these reagents on mica and quartz were investigated and figured out. By the means of contact angle measurement, the adsorption quantity test, the infrared spectrum analysis and the molecular dynamics simulation, further studies of the interaction mechanisms between the amine collector and minerals were carried on. The main conclusions were summarized as follows:The micro-flotation tests of pure minerals results showed that in strong acid solution, the flotation performances of primary amines on separation of mica and quartz were better than that of quaternary amines. The minerals crystal structure and infrared spectrum analysis showed that the adsorption of primary amines and quaternary amines on mica and quartz is typical physical interactions. The contact angle measurement and adsorption quantity test results showed that, with the pH increased, the contact angle of mica adsorbed dodecylamine increased firstly, and then decreased. The adsorption amount of dodecylamine on mica increased modestly, from which we can see in high pH, there formed multilayer adsorption on the surface of mica. In contrast, the contact angle of quartz and the adsorption amount increased firstly and then decreased, which was consistent with the results of micro-flotation tests. The adsorption equilibrium isotherms of dodecylamine on mica and quartz were studied and modeled. The adsorption of dodecylamine on mica and quartz was multilayer adsorption, which can be described by the theory of two step adsorption. By the same time, the adsorption amount of dodecylamine on the two minerals decreased with temperature increased.Molecular dynamics simulation showed that:the adsorption energy of dodecylamine cationic on mica surfaces was smaller than that on quartz surface, while the adsorption energy of dodecylamine cationic on these two minerals was almost zero. The stone coal flotation practice showed that, through the simple open flotation tests can make the concentrate of V2O5grade above3%and tailings of V2O5grade to below0.36%, which can greatly reduce the cost of vanadium leaching and improve the efficiency of using resources vanadium.
