Because of the excellent combination properties, the long fiber reinforced thermoplastic (LFT) has been wildly used in oversea market and it’s growing fast in domestic market recently. The research and development of LFT is significant for satisfying the demands of the domestic market.Via utilizing specific fiber dispersion and melting impregnation facility, controlling the proper viscosity of plastic to reach better impregnation, and optimizing productive process, long fiber reinforced PA6and PA66are prepared at various glass fiber content, which can reach the world same level. Nylon pellets (PA6,PA66) and modifying agent are mixed and plasticized by double screw extruder firstly, then squeezed into melting impregnation die in melting state. Through the above processes, the glass fibers are full dispersed and impregnated in the die-head. The influence of glass fiber content, impregnation situation and temperature, and pellets length on the performance of long fiber reinforced thermoplastic is investigated. High-performance PA6long fiber pellets (glass content:50%, tensile strength:230MPa, flexural strength:359MPa, notched impact strength;40KJ/m2) and PA66long fiber pellets(glass content:50%, tensile strength:270MPa, flexural strength:415MPa, notched impact strength;45KJ/m2) are made successfully through above research. The various perfonnance differences of LFT and SFG have been studied at50%nylon content of the case, and found that the LFT’s performance have been improved in varying degrees, especially the impact strength. The impact strength of LFT-PA66could be increased by97.8%than SFT-PA6, and compared with SFT-PA66, the strength of LFT-PA66could be increased by187%.The dynamic thermal mechanical properties (DMA) of glass fiber reinforced PA6and PA66with different glass content have been tested and found that the two kinds of nylon storage modulus increase with glass fiber content increase.
