As a well-known high performance material with excellentmechanical strength, chemical and thermal stabilities, the polyetherimide(PEI) is employed extensively in many fields. Due to the insulatingproperty, static charge generated on the surface of PEI may result in localheating which leads to structural failure. Therefore, it is a problem thatimproving the conductivity of PEI without destroying its performance,which need to solve, A methodology for improving antistatic property ofpolyetherimide (PEI) composite using polyaniline (PANI) graftedmulti-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) as conductive medium wasproposed.First, the MWNTs grafted with PANI (PANI-g-MWNTs) wereprepared by in situ polymerization in an emulsion system. Subsequently,PANI-g-MWNTs were blended with PEI using N-methyl-2-pyrrolidoneas solvent. After removing the solvent, the PEI/PANI-g-MWNTscomposite was prepared. As assisted conductive medium, the graftedPANI molecular chains on MWNTs surface were dispersed in the PEImatrix to decrease the percolation value of the antistatic composites. Thevolume resistivity of the conductivity percolation threshold was1.781×10-8S/cm when the loading of PANI-g-MWNTs was1.0wt%. Theconductivity of PANI-g-MWNTs/PEI composites was found to be higherthan that of pristine MWNTs/PEI composite.We prepared PANI-g-MWNTs at various ratios(ANI/MWNTs),which were doped with HCl、p-TSA、DBSA and SA. We found that theconductivity of PANI-g-MWNTs doped with HCl was highest. When the ratio of ANI/MWNTs was4:1and the doping acid was HCl, theconductivity of PANI-g-MWNTs was highest.
