In this thesis, a novel cycloaliphatic-aliphatic epoxy named1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol diglycidyl ether(CHDMDGE) was designed andsynthesized with a aliphatic six-membered ring in the molecular. The specialstructure combines cycloaliphatic epoxy and aliphatic epoxy, and overcomesthe brittleness of bisphenol-A epoxy, the low reactivity of cycloaliphatic epoxyand the poor strength of aliphatic epoxy at the same time, so it is expectedwith a very theoretical meaning and a very bright application future.Two-step process catalyzed by lewis acid boron fluoride etherate andone-step process catalyzed by solid alkali and quaternary ammonium salt wereused to synthesize CHDMDGE respectively. One-step process is easieroperated and reacts shorter and the epoxy value of the products is about0.72,better than0.60of products by two-step process.The curing kinetics of CHDMDGE cured by isophorone diamine (IPDA) and jeffamine D230were investigated with non-isothermal method, and thekinetic parameters of curing reaction were calculated. The proper curingprocesses were figured out basing on the curing characterized temperatures.The curing products’ mechanical properties of CHDMDGE wereinvestigated. The result suggested that, jeffamine D230acting as hardener,the tensile strength of CHDMDGE was37%higher and269%higher than thatof1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether(BDDGE) and1,6-hexanediol diglycidylether(HDDGE), and the elongation at break was186%higher and498%higher than that of BDDGE and HDDGE, respectively.Dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA) showed that glass transitiontemperatures(T_g) of CHDMDGE/IPDA/D230system increased higherregularly with increasing of IPDA. Acting as shape memory materials, theserial cured products’ shape fixity and shape recovery were nearly100%, andwhich were hardly influenced on after several cycle times.
