As a new kind of functional organic material, water-soluble polythiophene derivativeshave a broad prospect of applications, such as solar cells and sensors, because of theirexcellent photoelectronic and biocompatible properties. In this paper, we designed and synthesized two types of water-soluble polythiophenederivatives: poly[3-(1′-ethyloxy-2′-N-methylimidazole)thiophene] and (PEOIMT) and poly[3-(1′-propyloxy-3′-N,N,N-trimethylamino)thiophene](PPOTAT). Their molecular structureswere charactered by1HNMR and IR.Potophysical and electrochemical properties of the polymers were measured by UV-visabsorption spectrum, fluorescence spectrum and cyclic voltammetry. The temperature-responsive, solvent-responsive and pH-responsive of PEOIMT andPPOTAT were investigated by UV-vis absorption spectrum and particle analyzer. The biological detections of BSA in water solution by PEOIMT and PPOTAT were alsoinvestigated under the conditions of different concentrations, different temperatures anddifferent pH with the help of UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectra. The photovoltaic performances of using PEOIMT/PTCDA, PPOTAT/PTCDA,(PEOIMT/PTCDA)3and (PPOTAT/PTCDA)3as the active layers were studied. The power conversionefficiencies of photovoltaic cells were0.23%,0.2%,0.61%and0.54%, respectively.
