Two series of fourteen new rare earth (copper) complexes weresynthesized by reflux condensation method in my thesis. Theircomposition and structure were characterized by Elementalanalysis,ICP-OES,UV-VIS,FT-IR,XPS,TG-DTA, XRD,1HNMR,MS and TEMetc. The compositions of the first series of complexes were confirmed tobe: La(Assb)3.3H2O, Cu(Assb)2.2H2O, RE(Assb)(Hq)2.5H2O andCu(Assb)(Hq).4H2O (RE=La3+, Pr3+, Sm3+, Y3+; Assb=2-aminothiazoleshrink salicylaldehyde Schiff Base;Hq=8-hydroxy quinoline); Thecompositions of the second series of complexes were confirmed to be:La(HqnH)3(NO33(H2O).2H2O, RE(HqnH)(Phen)2(NO33(H2O).nH2Oand Cu(HqnH)(Phen)Cl2(H2O).2H2O (RE=La3+, Ce3+, Nd3+, Sm3+, Y3+;HqnH=Quinolin-2-carboxylic acid; Phen=1,10-phenanthroline;n=2or3).These two series of complexes with good thermal stability were provedby the data of TG-DTA. Particle size ofLa(HqnH)(Phen)2(NO33(H2O).2H2O was between50-200nm,and thecomplex with good dispensability. The antibacterial activities of these two series of complexes wereevaluated by Zone of Inhibition Test and Determination of MinimumInhibitory Concentration Test. The results of the antibacterial testshowed that all these two series of complexes exhibited strongantibacterial activities against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcusaureus with broad antibacterial spectrums. These two series ofcomplexes can applied to the field of antibacterial medicine andmaterials. The results of photoluminescence test showed that the secondseries of rare earth (copper) ternary complexes with strongphotoluminescent properties were proved.Studies results of mechanism of these two series of complexes with DNA interaction showed that modes of these two series of complexeswith DNA interaction were mainly intercalation, and supplemented byelectrostatic binding or groove binding.Antibacterial mechanism of these two series of complexes wasinitially explored.
