Catalytic distillation (CD) is an important kind of process intensification techniques in which catalytic reactions and distillation separations occur simultaneously in a column. The major benefits of a CD process include improved reaction rate and selectivity, lower energy saving. Ion exchange resins and molecular sieve catalyst are typical form of catalyst packing used in catalytic distillation, but distillation effect is not obvious and catalytic efficiency Can’t give full play, its application is limited in industrial. With the developments of green chemistry and environmental protection increasingly as people, Green catalyst become hot spot in chemical industry, in comparison to other catalyst, solid acid have good activity and selective, mild reaction conditions, easy to separate out. Solid acidic catalysts would play more and more important role in environmentally-benign catalytic systems. But much less attention has been paid to solid base catalysts. Therefore, the research and preparation of a novel solid base catalyst for catalytic distillation is very important.A novel solid base catalyst, structured MgO/Al2O3-Al catalyst packing, was prepared by supporting MgO onto a thin film of alumina that was formed by anodic oxidation of high purity aluminium foils. Some preparation and reaction parameters including the molar ratio of Mg(NO3)2-6H7O to CH3(CH2)16COOH, the aging time, the calcination temperature and time were investigated by using the catalyst for the condensation of acetone to diacetone alcohol. Each of those factors had some influence on the catalyst activity and an optimum value was obtained. The conversion of acetone was20.2%, and the selectivity to diacetone alcohol was100%under the optimized preparation conditions, reaction time is120min, the weight of catalyst is3.0g, the conversion of acetone Increased to26.2%.The MgO/Al2O3-Al catalyst was characterized by means of XRD, BET, CO2-TPD. The results show:As water temperature increase, Pore Volume and BET specific surface area increased, Pore Size decreased. The XRD results showed that MgO was utterly dispersed on Al-Al2O3. Structured solid base MgO/Al2O3-Al catalyst had a weak alkali site and strong alkali site.
