Either the industial waste water or the domestic sewage, water quality and quantity changes at all times, which adversely affects the following treatment. To set a regulation pond in the treatment to lessen the impact is necessary. At present, statistical approach and mass balance approach are used in enginerring. However, these two methods don’t consider the impact of structural parameters. This paper takes the typical concentric circle water quality regulation pond as research subject, using "time-traced-bake"method to establish a structrual model, visually stimulate the equalizing process and validate with experiments.Principles of the "time-traced-bake"method are:when the inflow concentration is known, the channel outflow at a certain time is corresponded with the inflow before the residence time to get the outflow concentration of the regulation pond. The structural model includes the desing parameters, which make up for the lack of the existing calculating methods.From the experiments, when inflow are120ml/s,110ml/s and80ml/s, the deviations between the model calculating value and the trial value are39.83%,56.21%and56.8%,respectively. After the correction of the invalid area, the deviations are28.50%,36.78%and39.16%,respectively. The decreases are28.50%,36.78%and39.16%. The impact of invalid area can’t be ignored.The experiment results show that the invalid area volume percentage increases with the increase of H/ri and decreases with the increase of Q. When Q is fixed, H/ri are0.78,0.90,1.08,1.35and1.78, Vd%are4.12%,10.86%,15.52%,16.92%and27.45%,respectively. When H/ri is fixed, the inflow Q are80ml/s,110ml/s and120ml/s, Vd%are15.52%,14.26%and11.28%.Use software LAB VIEW to visually stimulate the regulation performances. When are positive integers, the outflow wave coincides with the inlet wave. When are positive integers, the outflow wave is oppositive to the inflow. When are positive integers, the outflow wave is ideal. The conclusions can be used to check whether the parameters of the concentric circle regulation pond are reasonable. It indicates that the volume is not bigger is better. The regulation pond may not has positive effect when the parameters are unreasonable, which revises the conventional understanding.
