Laser welding gives full play to its advanced, rapid and flexible processingcharacteristics in the automobile industry, which is not only the technical guarantee ofdeveloping new automobile products, but also an indispensable technical means ofhigh-quality and low-cost production.Laser welding technology has achieved great progress in domestic, but there isstill a big gap between domestic and foreign countries in the automobile manufacturingapplication. At present, the main task is to bring in complete sets of laser processingequipment, production lines and technology for the welding of vehicle bodycomponents and for the tailor-welded blanks. Some manufacturers even directly importlaser machining parts from abroad. To enhance the competitiveness of China’sautomotive industry, research on the application of laser welding technology inautomotive Body In White (BIW) has important practical significance.This paper focused on laser welding of automotive body in white material factorsresearch, the laser welding method than traditional welding has greater advantages,and this area is relatively weak in China, hence this thesis work on the promotion oflaser welding in the automotive body in white in the application of important strategicsignificance.This paper focuses on the following three points:(1) Studying the mechanism of laser welding and analyzing the system of robotlaser welding of BIW and analyzing the principle of laser welding, two mechanisms oflaser welding, several effects in the process of laser welding and the characteristics ofthe formation of laser welding seam and so on.(2) The effects of several main welding parameters including laser power,welding speed on the laser welding of BIW. The laser welding experiment with themetal addition was carried out based on the galvanized steel of and the aluminum alloy.The best forming of welding were obtained by adjusting the welding parameters. By using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and the microstructure, themain phase of the welded joint regional was studied.(3) Studying the characteristics of the laser welding of two main car bodymaterials including Galvanized steel and aluminum alloy. This paper also focused onthe negative effect brought by the zinc galvanized steel on the laser welding seam andafforded several solutions. This paper analyzed the difficulties of laser welding ofaluminum plates as well as the corresponding solutions.
