With the increasing level of urbanization in China, sewage treatment facilities construction is developed at a high rate of speed, urban sewage treatment capacity is growing, at the same time, a large amount of sludge is leaved. Agricultural utilization, building use, landfill and incineration are the most widely used methods for sludge disposal. Incineration is a common method of sludge disposal, it can destroy all organic matter, kill all pathogens and minimize sludge volume. It is a disposal method which is fast, without long-term storage, without long-distance transport. This method can be applied to all sewage sludge disposal, with good prospects for development.In this paper, in order to reduce energy consumption and keep stable operation during sludge drying and incineration process. Zhuyuan sewage in Shanghai is chosen as a research object. The major part of the energy consumption structure during the system is studied, an energy and material balance model of the sludge drying and incineration system is established, which can provide quantitative analysis and optimized approach for the efficient use of energy in sludge drying and incineration project.According to the energy balance model of the sludge drying and incineration system, the sludge into the system, the operating conditions of sludge drying and incineration system, and other factors which influence the system’s energy balance relations are analyzed. The moisture content of the sludge is a key factor, and this is considered throughout the energy balance studies of the sludge drying incineration system. In this case, the operating modes of the system under the variable working condition sare analyzed. And the best energy saving operating conditions are analyzed, based on analysis of the sludge drying and incineration.According to characteristics of sludge drying and incineration, gas and solid material properties are researched during the sludge treatment process. Focus on explosive safety characteristics, emphasis on the temperature, oxygen content, and dust concentration and other key factors, preliminary hazard analysis method (PHA) and operating conditions for hazard assessment (LEC) are used to its quantitative risk analysis, security evaluation system is set up for sludge drying and incineration system.
