Soil microbial process plays an important role in the conversion of soil organic carbon into inorganic carbon, which is significant for the global carbon cycle. In this study, we investigated microbial functional diversity of carbon source utilization in three vegetation types under natural conditions along Sangong River basin in Fukang, Xinjiang, China. The three typical vegetation types were dominated by H.ammodendron, R.soongorica, and T.rarmosissima, respectively. The soil type is saline soil in this area with varied alkalinity. Biolog method was used to determine capability of soil microorganisms in utilizing31kinds of single carbon source. The results were as follows:(1) Soil total soluble salt in three typical vegetations was increased as the soil layer goes deeper, but the opposite for nudation. Farmland soil has no significant change in different layer. Soil water content of three vegetation was lower than farmland and nudation, it’s lowest in the top layer and increased in deeper. H.ammodendron soil pH value was8.69in May, T.rarmosissima was8.91in October.(2) Soil microbial biomass in sample plots were increased as the soil layer goes deeper.In August, the biomass is significantly higher than in May and October.Farmland and nudation soil has no big change with the time and soil layer.Soil microbial breathing has the similar variation tendency with biomass.The tendency of three vegetation is: T. rarmosissima> H. ammodendron> R. soongorica.(3) Soil enzyme activity in August is higher than in October. The activity of non-ligninolytic enzyme was weakened as the soil layer deepening, and the ligninolytic enzyme has no rule trendency. (4) The value of AWCD was declined with the soil layer increased in vegetation soil and nudation,but the trendcy did not appear in farmland.The Shannon index and Richness index declined as the soil layer goes deeper in spring and autumn.But in summer,the two indicator always in high level.(5) The diversity of soil microbial and carbon utilization were significant influenced by soil pH. H.ammodendron vegetation covered soil has strong activity of microorganism and function diversity.
