With the process of modernization, more and more requests have been putforward to improve the application performance of the material. But the generalphenolic resin, an ancient resin, has been difficult to meet the new developmentsiruation, especially in the high temperature field of application. The application ofphenolic resin was limited because of the poor thermal deformation resistance.Therefore,it is important to study the heat resistant modification of phenolic resin。In this paper,the phenolic resin modified by boron and molybdenum wasprepared with high thermal stability, using phenol and formaldehyde as raw materials,and hydrochloric acid as a catalyst. Orthogonal experiment was used to select the bestexperimental conditions to synthesize the phenol resin.(1) The best conditions ofsynthetic molybdenum modified phenolic resin is temperature of95℃, ammoniummolybdate content of6%, time of2h, and the mole ratio of the phenol and theformaldehyde is1.4:1.(2) The best conditions of synthetic boron modified phenolicresin is temperature of100℃,boric acid content of7%, time of3h, and the moleratio of the phenol and the formaldehyde is1.4:1.(3) The best conditions of syntheticboron and molybdenum modified phenolic resin is temperature of105℃, time of2h,ammonium molybdate content of4%, boric acid content of5%and the mole ratio ofthe phenol and the formaldehyde is1.2:1.The modified phenolic resin structure and morphology were characterized by theinfrared spectra, Raman spectroscopy, XRD and SEM.The analysis results show thatthe boron and molybdenum was successfully grafted on the molecule of phenol resin.The gravimetric analysis shows that the modified phenolic resin is better thanordinary phenolic in heat resistance. And by the mechanical property analysis, weknow the modified phenolic resin abrasive has better performance in hardness, wearresistance and flexural strength. At the same time, the quality of the phenolic resinwas tested, and the performances of modified phenolic resin have been significantlyimproved.
