Cr4+:Ca2GeO4is a kind of high performance tunable laser crystal. In this paper, the tuning range of Cr4+:Ca2GeO4crystal extend to1600nm in long wave band by adding Er3+ions.Er3+, Cr4+: Ca2GeO4polycrystalline were synthesized by different methods. The powder was analyzed by XRD, DSC-TG analysis and Scanning electron microscopic analysis. Results shown that the alcohol solution is the best choice. The grain size of the powder, lattice constants, crystallinity were calculated; The endothermic and exothermic process and microstructure were investigated. Er3+, Cr4+: Ca2GeO4was grown by flux method. XRD analysis show that the crystal is pure phase without impurities. Surface morphology analysis confirm the cause that hinder the crystal growth. Infrared spectra make sure the chemical bonds and substitution position of doped ions. The excitation and emission spectra indicates that with different doping concentrations, the effect of doping ions are different. The absorption cross section was calculated through measurement of fluorescence lifetime.
