Polyvinylamine(PVAm) is a liner water soluable functional polymermaterial,which has play an important role both in theoretic and practical value,many reactions can take place similar like to amine for it has a great many of aminegroups. At present, methods for produce polyvinylamine (PVAm) include:poly-(N-acyl)-vinylacetamide、 Hofmann degradation、 amination of polyvinylchloride、 Polymerization of N–vinylformamide. Hofmann degradation ofpolyacrylamide(PAM) is the simpleness and industrial potential among them. Inthis paper, it was applied to Prepare polyvinylamine with high amination degreesand fitting for industry production by using Commercial nonionic polyacrylamide.First, raw materials of Hofmann degradation were compared by means ofdifferent molecular weights and content of nitrogen. After contrast,the method andsequence of polyacrylamide’ adding as well as reaction conditions was adjusted. Onthe basis of regular Hofmann degradation, factors that infect the quality of productwas studied, for example the amount of input、reaction time and temperature, inorder to optimize reaction conditions.It is inevitable to give vice product of themixture containing alcohol and base solution, with large amount, so study theseparation and recycle of the mixture is necessary.The experiment results show that modified method is suitable for smallmolecular weights as well as the large. Adapt conditions by nitrogen content of17%, molecular weights between60-100(×104), chlorination reaction n(NaClO):n(NaOH): n(PAM)=2:1:1, temp. from-5℃to0℃. Rearrangement reaction n(NaOH):n(PAM)=25:1, time8h.78%of production and85%of aminationdegree’ product was produced.The recycling solution can be used three times.Furthermore, Polyvinyl chloride(material) was attacted by NH3as a newmethod for producing PVAm has been carried out.This method has only onestep,the material is cheap and reaction condition is mild.At last, nicotinic anhydrideand metal catalyst grafted on polyacrylamide were studied. Though PVAm graftedwith nicotinic anhydride was failed,however, PVAm grafted with Pd wassynthesized through N-Pd bond. It has obvious advantages in catalysis Suzukicoupe reaction in water system.
