Hollow micro-/nanostructures possess characteristics such as low density, highsurface-to-volume ratio, low coefficients of thermal expansion and low refractiveindex that make them attractive for applications ranging from catalyst support, surfacecoatings,dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) and rechargeable batteries.Hollow micro/nanostructures arouse great interest in many current. In this paper, A simple andconvenient way to prepare titania hollow sphere is explored and the properties of thehollow sphere use as display particles in electrophoretic and as photoelectrode inDSSC are characterize.Copolymer core is synthesized via emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization usingthe cationic as initiator. Core-shell structure successfully formed by deposite titaniumdioxide.After calcinations, hollow spheres are obtained with the average diameter ofapproximately150240nm. Calcination in Argon atmosphere, black titania–carbonhollow spheres are prepared. TEM,SEM,XRD and EDS are used to characterize them,the hollow structure of them can be confirmed, the density of titania hollow sphere are1.62g/cm3; For the black titania–carbon hollow spheres,its carbon content is from28.83%to40.17%by EDS test, this new kinds of composite material will have agreater application prospects.The electrophoretic mobility of titania hollow sphere is-0.026cm2V-1s-1and thevalve of Zeta is19.82mV.Low density titania hollow sphere are dispersed intomedium then fill into micro-cup device. It can obtaine display at15V low voltage.The contrast of it is8.7, the response time is1200ms.The anatase titania hollow sphere with a diameter of approximately220nm isused in DSSC. Compared to conventional P25nanocrystalline particles, the hollowstructured materials not only have a low density, hierarchically porous structures butalso exhibit high light-scattering efficiency. The results show that the structure of thetitania hollow sphere photoelectrode can improve20%the performance of the DSSC,the efficiency is5.05%...
