Olefin metathesis offers an efficient and useful methord for the construction of newcarbon-carbon double bond. The well-defined modern ruthenium catalysts hadfacilitated the application of this methord in many fields, including polymer chemistry, organic synthesis, green chemistry and so on. Today, many scientists are still trying toprepare catalysts that are with better performance by the modification of the ligands. In this study, a new catalyst,(H2IMes)Ru(=CC5H4FeC5H4OC3H7), was synthesisedfrom ferrocene. The Catalyst performed well in RCM reactions. The direct oxidative coupling of aryl C-H bonds with olefns provides an atomefficient route to vinylarene compounds which are important intermediates for theconstruction of more complex organic molecules. In the past decades, one of the mostpopular strategies is the use of a chelate-assistant which uses the aid of a neighboringdirecting group that precomplexes the metal and directs it to the desired position. However, the topography of the substrate in these reactions is crucial, which limit thescope of their application. Here, we describe an effective catalytic system for thedirect oxidative coupling of diverse arenes bearing no directing group with differentclasses of olefns. In this system,[RhCl(COD)]2was used as the catalyst,Cu(OAc)2·H2O as a co-oxidant, oxygen as a terminal oxidant, and trichloroacetic acidas an additive which was demonstrated to be an essential component in this reaction. The catalytic system was applied to the direct oxidative coupling of a series of arenesand olefins, and the corresponding products with special chemo-and regio-selectivitywere afforded in high yields. This reaction provides an atom efficient route tovinylarene compounds which are widely used in various fine chemicals.
