Breakout, whose formation mechanism is more complex, is a catastrophic accident incontinuous casting and it is the result of a variety of process parameters deviating from thesteady state. In order to achieve breakout prediction, the signals that reflect the sign ofbreakout must be monitored accurately and real-timely. In continuous casting, temperature,friction and vibration parameters of mould are the basic parameters that breakout predictionsystem need to collect and analyze. The realization of on-line monitoring of these parametershas an important significance and practical value for continuous casting production.According to the disadvantages of fixed function, poor cooperation, slow-speedtechnology innovation, high maintenance cost and so on in traditional mould monitoringsystem, this paper developed a set of the online monitoring system for the continuous castingwith friendly human-computer interaction including signal acquisition, data processing,real-time monitoring, database management, remote monitoring function by virtue ofgraphical programming language LabVIEW. The system made full use of the flexiblity andconvenience, high integration, easy to extend, low maintenance cost characteristics of thevirtual instrument, and taked computer and PXI systems of NI company as hardwaresystems. The system was mainly divided into two parts, the host computer and slavecomputer. The host computer was composited by PC computer, realizing the functions ofanalysis, processing, display, database storage of collected data in Window operationgsystem. The thesis made detailed description about software architecture of this part and therealization process of functional modules; the slave computer was composited by the PXIsystem, running LabVIEW RT operating system, and realizing the acquisition of monitoringsignal; After the detailed study of the remote communication mode, this paper used acombination of C/S mode and B/S mode and made full use of the advantages of the twomodes to achieve the remote monitoring of field signals.This topic is a successful attempt of the virtual instrument technology in the field ofcontinuous casting monitoring, providing an effective means for the online grasp of status ofthe continuous casting production and the online regulation of production process, laying afoundation for the development of breakout prediction system and mold expert system.
