Steel material, which is widely applied in aerospace, civil construction, machinerymanufacturing and other critical industry, is very important for the development ofnational economy and national defense industry. The level of the steel industry is animportant parameter indicating the development of industrialization of the country.Heating furnace is used to heat the steel before rolling. The heating of steel and steelquality, production, consumption and mechanical life are all directly related to the qualityof billet heating which can improve the plasticity and reduce the resistance of thermalprocessing. Meanwhile, the heating furnace consumes a lot of energy, which takes about10%to15%energy consumption in the whole steel production process. The amount ofenergy consumption of a furnace means a lot to the cost of steel production. So energyconsumption decreasing in heating furnace, when it meets the demand of heating process,is the key part of energy conservation.In the heating process, the heat exchange has relation with two parts: convective heattransfer and radiation heat transfer. The water cooled moving beam which supports thesteel billet takes a part of heat from the contact point with the steel billet. This paper usedcommercial software fluent to establish the convection and radiation model, did numericalanalysis of the heat transfer coefficient in the heating process of the steel, and made acontrast of affection factors in the convection heat transfer and radiation heat transfer.Taking the example of the furnace in Wuhan Steel No.4Rolling, this paperestablished a physical model, measured the temperature of the roof and the inner wall ofthe furnace and the steel when it was just taken out, and the pressure and flow of the airand natural gas. The heating process is taken as a study subject to acquire the convectionheat transfer coefficient, radiation angle coefficient and establish mathematical model todo numerical calculation to get the two dimensional inner temperature distribution curveof the steel and the surface temperature, section temperature and core temperature difference. It provides critical basis to optimize the temperature control of the heatingfurnace.
