Modular design of modern machines is under the functional requirements of users, which designs a series of different structures and purposes, while the function modules and a number of specific components are same and interchangeable. Then it can meet the customers’ requirements, which contain special machine, flexible manufacturing, etc, by assembling the different modules. This design method can improve the efficiency and adaptability of the machine design.The module partition is the first step of the modular design, and it is the prerequisite and foundation of the modular design. It directly affects the function of modular machine, performance and cost. The work of this thesis is as follows:(1)It expatiates the basic concepts of CNC machine and module division, and it analyses the principle and method of division module, which is used on the CNC vertical and horizontal machine and other mechanical products based on the basic concepts. It proposes an improved division method by comparing and analysis. The main characteristics of the new method is that it constitutes four kinds of division principle for different view of modular division, and it can avoid the blindness of module partition a certain extent, which can make the modular division more pointed and operable.(2)For several common CNC turning and milling center, based on the proposed principles and methods of modules partition, modular re-design was carried out. Firstly, determine the general function of the machine tool based on market research and analysis of user requirements. Second, decompose the function of the machine tool and establish the function relationship model. Then based on the functional analysis, rational functional structure of module division was conducted through calculate correlation matrix of each sub function by Hierarchical clustering algorithm. Finally, create structure module at all levels of CNC turning and milling center through Solidworks modeling technique, then assemble them according to the module partition program.(3)It researches the module partition evaluation method of CNC machine in detail, a reasonable evaluation and decision-making of partition method and examples was conducted by AHP, and then obtained the optimal module partition program.(4)Module design series thought was proposed, carried out a systematic study on the part design table of Solidworks as an example. Finally, comprehensive editing and management of module parameters was done through management tools. It provides a foundation for module combination and the modular design of CNC machine tools.
