Porous inorganic materials have been widely used in adsorption, separation, catalysis and drug release because of their large specific surface area and narrow poresize distribution and high hydrothermal stability. The molecular sieves with chiral poresand/or frameworks are potentially applied in enantioseparation, adsorption andasymmetric catalysis. Generally, the chiral molecular sieves are prepared using chiraltemplates or chiral structure-directing agents which can transfer their chirality to theinorganic frameworks of the molecular sieves. Herein, microporous and mesoporoussilicas were prepared through templating approaches, which were characterized usingcircular dichroism, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electronmicroscope, X-ray powder diffraction and nitrogen sorptions. The research mainlyincludes the following two parts:One is the preparation of chiral microporous silicas. Firstly, typical chiral organictemplates were designed and synthesized, and then, they were used as templates in thehydrothermal synthesis. The silicas containing templates were obtained. Finally, Thetemplates were removed. Therefore, the zeolites may have chiral pores in the framework. The other is the preparation of chiral mesoporous silicas. Chiral cationic amphiphiliccompounds were designed and synthesized. With the self-assembly body of the chiralcationic amphiphilic compounds as templates and silicon source, A series ofmesoporous silica nano slice and nano ribbon structure were prepared, which was chiraltested by the characterization of circular dichroism.
